Idlewild's Roddy Woomble

Tempted though I was to go with Ghouls Aloud I think the honour of gig of the day has to go to Idlewild playing tonight at Koko. Seen as it’s promoting their greatest hits, this should be an utter belter. If only I had any spare cash, or a ticket…I’d be there!

We’ve got Cesc Fabregas!

Fabregas celebrates scoring the equaliser for Arsenal

So that’s 23 games unbeaten stretching back into last season with Fabregas shovelling in ten goals so far this season. I think that although a draw was a fair result, it is also true that only one team ever looked like winning the game and that was Arsenal.

Onto Sheffield United in the League Cup midweek, and I expect an even younger side to face the Blades than faced Newcastle in the third round. Still a team of say, Fabianski, Hoyte, Nordtveit, Song, Traore, Merida, Denilson, Diarra, Bendtner, Lansbury should be enough to see off a struggling United side.

Then, the big one. Arsenal vs the Shit. Ooooh.

The Magnificent Seven

Theo Walcott rounds the keeper before scoring Arsenal's third

Last night at the Emirates was surely one of the greatest performances the European Cup (or Champions League) has ever seen. The Young Gunners popped in seven goals, but it so easily could have been more. Coincidentally, the first Arsenal game I ever saw on TV was Arsenal vs FK Austria Memphis, a game that also had 7 goals, a 6-1 demolition in the 1991-2 European Cup. How strange. Anyway, I attribute this season’s success to two players in particular, Alex Hleb and Cesc Fabregas. The communication and vision between them is excellent and both have added significantly to the goals tally. If we can keep both of them fit Arsenal are in with a chance of silverware this year.

The ‘Great’ Weekend of English Sport

I think the essence of Englishness must be to lose, uncontrollably. Whilst there was an air of inevitability about the Rugby defeat to a better side, the Formula One with young Mr Hamilton was in the bag. Surely?
Ah well, in that other pecularly English way, McLaren are making the stench of sour grapes by moaning about Rosberg, Kubica and Heidfeld’s fuelling. Get over it. You failed to back one of your drivers, let them take points off each other and finally got beaten by a man that eight races ago was 27 points behind.
